This will be achieved by:

undertaking research and publishing wherever possible

purchasing resources that may become available or required by the society

having a regular programme of speakers

Meetings are usually held on the 3rd Monday of every month, at 7.00 p.m. Indoor meetings are held in Biddulph Library, Tunstall Road, Biddulph, Staffordshire ST8 6HH - car parking available on the adjacent Wharf Road car park.


Society Publications are now available to buy at Society Meetings in the Biddulph Library or as a PDF copy by contacting David Outhwaite (Secretary of the Society).

** New Publication ** St. Lawrence Monumental Inscriptions No.1. A survey of every gravestone around Biddulph’s Parish Church. (Graves closest to the Church). A reprint of the survey led by Gordon and Pam Lomas £6.00 (£2 of which has been donated to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice).

** New Publication ** The Topography and Antiquities of Biddulph in the County of Stafford – also known as the Writings of the Reverend Hadfield. Written in 1837 and converted from a handwritten manuscript by members of the Society. It gives detailed family history of Local families, Church Registers, Payment of Tithes and other interesting information £5.00.

A Survey of the Inhabitants of Biddulph 1779 compiled by Mr. Derek Wheelhouse. A list of all the families of Biddulph originally taken by the Reverend J. Wilson on April 5th to 8th 1779. The booklet costs £1 per A5 copy or A4 Adobe PDF file.

An Enumeration of the Inhabitants of Biddulph 1801 compiled by Mr. Derek Wheelhouse. A list of all the families of Biddulph originally taken by the Jeremiah Ginders, Church Warden and William Armitt, Overseer of the Poor on March the 10th 1801. The booklet costs £1 per A5 copy or A4 Adobe PDF file.

The story of John Harold Rhodes: A Packmoor Hero compiled by Michael Turnock. This is the life story of Lance Sergeant John Harold Rhodes V.C., D.C.M. of the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards who was awarded a V.C. for his bravery on the 9th October 1917. The booklet costs £3.50 per A4 copy or A4 Adobe PDF file. (13 colour pages)

Elaine Heathcote and Kathleen Walton’s Biddulph Born and Bred, a guide to tracing your ancestors - especially if your relatives came from the Parish of Biddulph, Staffordshire. Forty one A4 pages of Research Methods and Helpful Suggestions.

On sale and costing just £3.50 per copy. It can be purchased from the usually sources including Biddulph Library. Also available as an Adobe PDF document by contacting the secretary of the society, David J Outhwaite, by email, at a cost of £3.00.

Elaine Heathcote's Old Gillow - the story of the community at Gillow Heath. 150 A4 pages of anecdotes and history. On sale at Biddulph Library, Chapter One and at meetings of the Society. Price £12

The Story of the Creation of Meadows Way: the Biddulph Inner By-pass', written and edited by Nigel R. Yates with photographs by Brian Nightingale and Michael J. Turnock.

The book details the long arguments and fight for the by-pass. It includes a photographic record of the town before and during the building of Meadows Way and has over 100 colour photographs. The book has been printed with support from The Tourism Committee of Biddulph Town Council.

Only 250 numbered copies have been printed and they are available from Biddulph Library at £8.00.

The Society is making more of its published work available in pdf format at a cost of £2 per document.

The first four documents to be made available are the Transactions of the Biddulph Historical Society from 1968 to 1973. Articles include:

'St Lawrence Parish Church, Biddulph - Monumental Inscriptions Volume II' produced by members of the society. Available to personal callers at Biddulph Library for £6-00.

Biddulph's Coronation Year - 160+ pages of photographs depicting Biddulph life in the early 1950s. The book was published, with the aid of a Lottery grant, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

'A History of Biddulph' - from the writings of Mr. Richard Biddulph which originally appeared in the Biddulph Chronicle £2.50.

'Goowin' dine th' grayn - A History of Biddulph High Street' has been compiled by Elaine Heathcote. As the title suggests it is a history of the People and Businesses of Biddulph High Street.

Currently Groups are, or have been, involved in:

'The Biddulph Valley Railway' a book by Mr R. Machin is being prepared for publication and will be based on Roland's talk to the Society and additional research.
